Utility Connection/Disconnection Requests

When the Physical Plant A&I unit receives a utility connection/disconnection request, the appropriate shop Supervisor is notified and will pick up the form. Prior to submission, please make sure the following information is provided:
  • All contact information
  • A set of drawings identifying the location of the utility connection/disconnection
  • Type of utility requested
  • Service size (in volts/phase/amps)
  • Dig Permit
This shop (energy, electric, water, or gas) will then order the meter and contact the contractor for a date to install the meter. The Supervisor will contact the Utility Provider to set up a service connection date. As soon as the contractor has the service and meter installed, they will need to contact the Code Office for an inspection for the appropriate utility. When the service has satisfactorily passed the inspection, the Code Office will contact the appropriate shop Supervisor and schedule an impedance inspection (5 OHMS or less for Electrical work). When the impedance inspection has passed, Progress Energy will be scheduled by the Electric Shop Supervisor.
Once the service is made “HOT”, the Electric Shop Supervisor will contact the meter reader and give them a location, meter serial number, and start reading via e-mail. Water and sewer connections will be done utilizing the same format. A copy of this form will be maintained in the appropriate shop upon completion. The requestor must fill out the Utility Connection/Disconnection Form, available here and submit it by fax or e-mail.
